# Goethe A1 Speaking Part 2 – Ask for Information

> Speaking Part 2 of the Goethe-Zertifikat A1: form a question with a keyword and answer questions. Useful phrases, common mistakes and an example.

## Key takeaways

- You get a topic and a keyword and use them to form a simple question.
- You also answer the questions of the other participants.

- Task type: Question–answer
- Focus: Asking & answering questions

## What this part tests

Part 2 tests whether you can ask for and give information in everyday life. You get a topic (for example “Einkaufen”) and a keyword (for example “Milch”) and use them to form a simple question to another participant.

In the same way you answer the questions the others ask you with their keywords. It’s about simple wh-questions and short answers: “Wie viel kostet …?”, “Wann …?”, “Wo …?”.

What matters is that you form a correct, simple question and respond to the others’ questions with a short answer. Whoever knows a few question words confidently solves this part easily.

**What you practice:** Forming questions, Using question words, Answering briefly

## How to approach it

1. Look at the topic and your keyword.
2. Form a simple question with a question word (“Wie viel kostet die Milch?”).
3. Ask the question to another participant.
4. Listen to the others’ questions and answer briefly and appropriately.
5. Speak in simple, full sentences.

## Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: how to form a question and answer.

**Aufgabe:** Thema: „Freizeit". Dein Stichwort: „Wochenende". Bilde eine Frage und beantworte die Frage deines Partners.

- Example (question & answer):
  - Answer: Frage: „Was machst du am Wochenende?" – Antwort des Partners: „Am Wochenende spiele ich Fußball." / Auf die Frage „Gehst du am Wochenende aus?" antwortest du: „Ja, ich treffe Freunde." — The example forms a simple wh-question with the keyword “Wochenende” and gives a short, fitting answer – exactly what’s expected in Part 2.

## Practice: test yourself

In Teil 2 hast du das Thema „Einkaufen" und das Stichwort „Milch".

- Which question fits the keyword?
  - a) Wie viel kostet die Milch?
  - b) Wie alt bist du?
  - c) Wo wohnst du?
  - Answer: a — For the topic “Einkaufen” (shopping) and the keyword “Milch”, the question “Wie viel kostet die Milch?” fits (a). b and c don’t fit the keyword.

## Common mistakes

- **Not forming a real question:** Use a question word (Wie viel, Wann, Wo) and ask a full question, not just the keyword.
- **Not fitting the keyword:** The question must fit the topic and keyword. “Wie viel kostet die Milch?” for “Milch”, not “Wie alt bist du?”.
- **Not responding to the answer:** Listen to the answer and react briefly (“Danke!”).
- **Asking too complicated:** Simple questions are enough. Complicated sentences lead to mistakes.

## Tips

- Learn the most important question words: Wie viel, Wann, Wo, Was, Wie.
- Practice forming a fitting question for a keyword.
- Answer the others’ questions briefly and politely.
