# Goethe A1 Writing Part 1 – Fill in a Form

> Writing Part 1 of the Goethe-Zertifikat A1: fill in a form with five pieces of information. Format, strategy, common mistakes and a worked example with answer.

## Key takeaways

- You read a short text about a person and fill in a form.
- Transfer five pieces of information (e.g. name, place of birth, phone) to the right place.

- Task type: Form
- Focus: Transferring details

## What this part tests

Part 1 tests whether you can transfer information from a short text into a form. You read a small text about a person and complete five missing pieces of information in the form – for example surname, first name, place of birth, place of residence or phone number.

It’s about writing the right information in the right place. Watch especially for the difference between origin (where from?) and place of residence (where now?) and for numbers like postcode and phone number.

You don’t have to write full sentences – just the individual details. Every correct detail scores points; wrong answers are not penalized, so fill in every field.

**What you practice:** Filling in a form, Assigning details, Writing numbers correctly

## How to approach it

1. Read the whole text once and underline the details (name, place, numbers).
2. Look at the form and consider which detail goes in which field.
3. Transfer the information to the right place – watch origin and place of residence.
4. Copy numbers (postcode, phone) exactly.
5. Check at the end that all five fields are filled in.

## Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: read the text and fill in the field correctly.

**Du liest (sinngemäß):** „Herr Yilmaz ist 40 Jahre alt. Er kommt aus der Türkei und wohnt in der Lindenstraße 5 in Bremen. Er arbeitet als Busfahrer."

- What do you write in the field “occupation”? (a) Busfahrer · (b) Bremen · (c) 40
  - Answer: a — Herr Yilmaz “arbeitet als Busfahrer” (works as a bus driver) – that’s his occupation (a). “Bremen” is the place of residence, “40” is his age.

## Practice: test yourself

Du liest (sinngemäß): „Das ist Frau Lopez. Sie kommt aus Spanien und wohnt jetzt in Hamburg. Ihre Telefonnummer ist 040 987654."

- What do you write in the field “place of residence”?
  - a) Spanien
  - b) Hamburg
  - c) 040 987654
  - Answer: b — Frau Lopez “wohnt jetzt in Hamburg” (now lives in Hamburg) – that’s her place of residence. “Spanien” is the origin, “040 987654” the phone number.

## Common mistakes

- **Confusing origin and residence:** “kommt aus” is the origin, “wohnt in” the place of residence. Don’t write them in the wrong field.
- **Copying numbers wrong:** Postcode and phone number must be exactly right. Copy them carefully.
- **Leaving a field empty:** Every empty field is a lost point. Fill in all five fields.
- **Writing full sentences:** In the form the individual details are enough – no full sentences needed.

## Tips

- Underline the details in the text before you fill in the form.
- Watch the difference “kommt aus” (origin) and “wohnt in” (residence).
- Write numbers especially carefully.

## Frequently asked questions
