How is the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 structured?
It has four modules: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Listening, reading and writing are written; speaking is oral and usually takes place in a small group.
How long does the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 take?
The written part takes around 65 minutes: about 20 minutes listening, 25 minutes reading and 20 minutes writing. The oral exam takes about 15 minutes.
How many points do I need to pass the Goethe-Zertifikat A1?
You pass the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 with 60 % of the total points. There is no fixed minimum per module – you can offset weaker modules with stronger ones.
What is the difference between Start Deutsch 1 and the Goethe-Zertifikat A1?
It’s the same exam. “Start Deutsch 1” is the joint name used by the Goethe-Institut and telc for the A1 exam; the structure, level and assessment are identical.
