# Goethe-Zertifikat A2 – Writing (Schreiben)

> Writing (Schreiben) in the Goethe-Zertifikat A2: write a short message (Part 1) and a forum post (Part 2). Structure, useful phrases, examples and grading.

## Key takeaways

- Writing has 2 parts: a short message and a forum post.
- In both parts you cover the given guide points – cover them all.
- You have around 30 minutes for the Writing module.

Writing is the module of the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 exam where you produce text yourself. It has two parts: in Part 1 you write a short personal message (e.g. a text or email to a friend), in Part 2 you write a short forum post or comment on a topic. You have around 30 minutes for it.

In Part 1 you respond to a situation and cover the given guide points – one to two sentences each is enough. A greeting, a sign-off and simple, clear sentences matter. In Part 2 you comment on a topic (e.g. in a forum) and give your opinion or experience.

You’re graded on whether you complete the task (all guide points covered?), whether your text is clearly structured and whether the language is understandable. Perfect grammar isn’t needed at A2 – what matters more is that you’re understood and all points appear.

- Parts: 2
- Tasks: 2
- Points: 20
- Time: 30 min
- to pass: ~60 %
- Difficulty: easy (2/5)

## The parts at a glance

- [Part 1 – Message](https://prepliq.com/en/practice-test/goethe-zertifikat-german-a2/writing/part-1) — Message · Writing a short message · 1 Tasks · 10 Points. In Part 1 you write a short personal message for a situation with guide points. Here’s how to build it step by step.
- [Part 2 – Forum post](https://prepliq.com/en/practice-test/goethe-zertifikat-german-a2/writing/part-2) — Forum post · Writing an opinion · 1 Tasks · 10 Points. In Part 2 you write a short forum post on a topic. Here’s how to give your opinion and cover the guide points.

## Tips & strategy

- **Cover all guide points:** In both parts you must address all the given guide points – one to two sentences each is enough. A missing point costs you marks.
- **Don’t forget greeting and sign-off:** In Part 1 you start with a greeting (“Hallo …” / “Liebe/r …”) and end with a sign-off. That’s part of the message.
- **Choose the right register:** In Part 1 you usually write informally (du, Hallo). In Part 2 (forum) you write a bit more neutrally, but still simply.
- **Link simple sentences:** Write short, simple sentences and link them with “und”, “aber”, “weil”. Understandable matters more than complicated.
- **Split your time across both parts:** You have around 30 minutes for both parts. Leave enough time for both and check at the end.
- **Check at the end:** Check quickly: do you have all guide points in both parts? In Part 1, greeting and sign-off? Fix obvious errors.

## Useful phrases

Learn a fixed set of phrases for both parts:

- **Greeting (Part 1)** — Hallo …, / Liebe/r …,
- **Opening** — wie geht es dir? / vielen Dank für deine Nachricht. / ich schreibe dir, weil …
- **Opinion (Part 2)** — Ich finde … / Meiner Meinung nach … / Ich denke, dass …
- **Request & suggestion** — Kannst du bitte …? / Wollen wir …? / Wie wäre es, wenn …?
- **Sign-off (Part 1)** — Viele Grüße / Liebe Grüße / Bis bald

## Typical situations

The writing tasks are usually these:

- **Message (Part 1)** — invitation, arrangement, request or refusal to a friend/family
- **Forum post (Part 2)** — give your own opinion or experience on a topic
- **Topics** — leisure, travel, home, food, sport, everyday life
