# Goethe B1 Speaking Part 3 – Feedback and Questions

> Speaking Part 3 of the Goethe-Zertifikat B1: respond to your partner’s presentation – give feedback and ask a question. Useful phrases, mistakes and an example.

## Key takeaways

- You give your partner short feedback on their presentation and ask a question.
- Say what you liked and ask a fitting question about the topic.

- Task type: Feedback & question
- Focus: Responding to a presentation

## What this part tests

Part 3 tests whether you can respond to someone else’s contribution. After your partner has given their presentation, you give them short feedback and ask a question about the topic. Then you do this the other way round.

It’s about a polite, fitting response: say what you liked or found interesting about the presentation, and ask a sensible question that fits the topic. You thereby show that you listened.

The most common losses of marks: giving no real feedback or asking a question that has nothing to do with the topic. Whoever listens attentively and responds politely solves this part reliably.

**What you practice:** Giving feedback, Asking questions, Responding to others

## How to approach it

1. Listen attentively to your partner’s presentation.
2. Give short, polite feedback (“Deine Präsentation war interessant.”).
3. Say what you liked or found interesting.
4. Ask a question that fits the topic.
5. Then answer your partner’s question about your presentation.

## Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: how to respond to the presentation.

**Aufgabe:** Dein Partner hat eine Präsentation über „Sport im Alltag" gehalten. Gib ihm eine Rückmeldung und stelle eine Frage.

- Example (feedback & question):
  - Answer: Vielen Dank für deine Präsentation, sie war wirklich interessant. Mir hat besonders gefallen, dass du Beispiele aus deinem Alltag genannt hast. Ich habe eine Frage: Wie schaffst du es, neben der Arbeit regelmäßig Sport zu machen? — The example gives polite, concrete feedback (“Mir hat gefallen, dass …”) and asks a fitting question on the topic – exactly what Part 3 expects.

## Practice: test yourself

Dein Partner hat eine Präsentation über „Sport im Alltag" gehalten.

- Which sentence is good feedback with a question?
  - a) Deine Präsentation war interessant. Wie oft machst du selbst Sport?
  - b) Das war langweilig.
  - c) Ich habe nicht zugehört.
  - Answer: a — In Part 3 you give polite feedback and ask a question. Option a does both. b is impolite, c shows you didn’t respond.

## Common mistakes

- **No real feedback:** Say concretely what you liked – not just “okay” or “gut”.
- **Question doesn’t fit the topic:** Ask a question that really belongs to the presentation. That shows you listened.
- **Responding impolitely:** Stay polite and friendly, even if you didn’t like something.
- **Not responding at all:** Part 3 requires an active response. Silence feels incomplete.

## Tips

- Learn phrases for feedback: “Mir hat gefallen, dass …”, “Ich fand interessant, dass …”.
- Be ready to ask a fitting question on any topic.
- Listen attentively so your question fits the topic.
