# Goethe B1 Writing Part 2 – Forum Post

> Writing Part 2 of the Goethe-Zertifikat B1: write a forum post (~80 words) with your opinion. Structure, useful phrases and a worked example with answer.

## Key takeaways

- You write a forum post (~80 words) with your opinion on a topic.
- State your opinion clearly and justify it with “weil” and an example.

- Task type: Forum post
- Focus: Writing an opinion

## What this part tests

In Part 2 you write a forum post (around 80 words) on a current topic – for example environment, media, work or community. You give your opinion and justify it. Often there is a short question or statement to which you respond.

What’s decisive is that you state a clear opinion, justify it with a reason and ideally an example, and draw a small conclusion. The style is neutral – neither fully private nor strictly formal.

The most common losses of marks: no clear opinion, no justification or off the topic. Whoever takes a position, justifies it with “weil” and gives an example writes convincingly.

**What you practice:** Giving an opinion, Justifying, Giving examples

## How to approach it

1. Read the topic and consider your opinion.
2. Start with your opinion (“Ich finde …”, “Meiner Meinung nach …”).
3. Justify it with “weil” and give an example from your everyday life.
4. Maybe name a counter-argument and refute it.
5. Close with a short conclusion.
6. Check at the end: clear opinion, justification, on the topic?

## Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: the task and a model post.

— The post states a clear opinion (from about twelve), justifies it (“weil die Eltern …”), names a counter-argument and an example (the sister) and draws a conclusion – exactly what Part 2 expects.

## Practice: test yourself

In einem Forum geht es um das Thema „Sollte man weniger Fleisch essen?".

- Which sentence is good for justifying your opinion?
  - a) Ich finde, man sollte weniger Fleisch essen, weil es besser für die Umwelt und die Gesundheit ist.
  - b) Fleisch gibt es im Supermarkt.
  - c) Ich weiß nicht, was ich dazu sagen soll.
  - Answer: a — In a forum post you give your opinion with a reason. Option a does that (“Ich finde …, weil …”). b only states a fact, c says nothing.

## Common mistakes

- **No clear opinion:** Take a position. A forum post without an opinion feels incomplete.
- **Opinion without a reason:** “Ich finde das gut.” isn’t enough. Justify with “weil …” and give an example.
- **Off the topic:** Write exactly on the given topic, not about something else.
- **Wrong register:** Write neutrally – not too private (“Hallo Leute”) and not strictly formal.

## Tips

- Start with your opinion and justify it with “weil”.
- Give an example from your everyday life – that makes the post convincing.
- Close with a short conclusion.

## Frequently asked questions

### How long should the forum post be?

Around 80 words, in which you state your opinion, justify it and give an example.

### Do I need a greeting and sign-off?

In a forum post usually not. You start directly with your opinion on the topic.

### Do I have to justify my opinion?

Yes. Justify it with “weil …” and ideally give an example. That shows B1 level.

### How do I get feedback on my post?

The official PDF answer key does not grade writing. At Prepliq a mock exam grades your text automatically against the official criteria.
