# Goethe C1 Listening Part 2 – Interview

> Listening Part 2 of the Goethe-Zertifikat C1: hear an expert interview and solve 9 true/false tasks. You hear it twice. Strategy and a worked example.

## Key takeaways

- You hear a radio interview with an expert and decide for 9 statements: true or false?
- You hear it twice. Watch the exact statement and any qualifications.

- Task type: True/False
- Focus: Understanding an expert interview

## What this part tests

Part 2 tests whether you can follow a longer interview on a specialist topic – usually a host interviews an expert. You decide for nine statements whether they are true or false.

The statements follow the order of the interview. At C1 they are paraphrased, and you must grasp the expert’s exact statements, reasons and qualifications. You hear the interview twice.

A false statement often picks up a word but distorts the meaning, or generalises too strongly. Watch for qualifications and who says what. Every correct decision scores points; wrong answers are not penalized.

**What you practice:** Understanding an interview, Grasping statements, Recognizing qualifications

## How to approach it

1. Before listening, read all nine statements and mark key words.
2. Listen to the interview and follow the statements in order.
3. Watch the expert’s exact statements, including qualifications.
4. Compare each statement with what you hear: is the meaning fully right?
5. Check your answers on the second listening.

## Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: you hear an extract and decide whether the statement is true.

**Du hörst (sinngemäß):** Experte: „Die Digitalisierung der Schulen ist wichtig, aber sie darf das Schreiben mit der Hand nicht völlig verdrängen. Beides hat seinen Wert."

- Statement: “The expert rejects the digitalization of schools.”
  - Answer: False (Falsch) — The expert calls digitalization “wichtig” but warns against displacing handwriting. He does not reject it – so false.

## Practice: test yourself

- Is the statement true or false? Statement: “Writing by hand has a positive effect on cognitive abilities.”
  - r) True (Richtig)
  - f) False (Falsch)
  - Answer: r — The expert says “das Schreiben mit der Hand fördert das Denken” and thus cognitive abilities. The statement reflects that correctly – true.

## Common mistakes

- **Generalizing too strongly:** A statement is often only true with a qualification. Watch for “nur”, “vor allem”, “nicht immer”.
- **Missing the qualification:** “allerdings”, “zwar … aber” change the statement. Grasp it in full.
- **Same word, wrong statement:** A word from the interview doesn’t make the statement right. Watch for the meaning.
- **Leaving boxes blank:** No answer means a guaranteed zero. Decide even if you have to guess.

## Tips

- Watch especially for qualifications and exact wording.
- Follow the statements in the order of the interview.
- Use the second listening to check.
