# Goethe C2 Reading Part 4 – Ads

> Reading Part 4 of the Goethe-Zertifikat C2: compare four job ads and match 8 statements to the right ad. Strategy, common mistakes and a worked example.

## Key takeaways

- You quickly get an overview of four job ads and match 8 statements to the right ad.
- Watch the exact conditions of each ad.

- Task type: Matching
- Focus: Comparing ads

## What this part tests

Part 4 tests whether you can quickly get an overview of several demanding texts and compare information purposefully – usually four job ads. You match eight statements to the matching ad (a, b, c or d).

It’s about selective reading under time pressure: for each statement you look for the ad that fits it exactly. Details like fixed-term status, tasks, requirements, location and pay matter. The statements are paraphrased.

The difficulty: the ads are similar, and a statement can almost fit several. Watch the exact detail that applies to only one ad. Every correct match scores points; wrong answers are not penalized.

**What you practice:** Skimming ads, Comparing details, Matching statements

## How to approach it

1. First get a quick overview of all four ads.
2. Read the first statement and consider which detail is decisive.
3. Look for the ad that contains exactly this detail.
4. Watch fixed-term status, tasks, requirements, location and pay.
5. Choose the ad that fits exactly – not just almost.
6. Transfer your answers to the answer sheet in good time.

## Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: match the statement to the right ad.

(a) Anzeige a · (b) Anzeige b
  - Answer: a — Ad a says you are “dauerhaft im Ausland” (permanently abroad) – that matches the statement. Ad b names the headquarters in Berlin as the workplace.

## Practice: test yourself

Du vergleichst Stellenanzeigen.
Anzeige a (sinngemäß): „Die Stelle ist unbefristet zu besetzen."
Anzeige b (sinngemäß): „Die Stelle ist zunächst auf zwei Jahre befristet."

- Which ad fits the statement “Diese Stelle wird auf Dauer angeboten”?
  - a) Anzeige a
  - b) Anzeige b
  - Answer: a — Ad a is “unbefristet zu besetzen” (permanent) – that corresponds to “auf Dauer angeboten”. Ad b is “befristet auf zwei Jahre” (fixed-term for two years) and doesn’t fit.

## Common mistakes

- **Watching an imprecise detail:** A statement can almost fit several ads. Watch the unambiguous detail.
- **Reading too slowly:** Part 4 requires fast skimming. Search purposefully instead of reading each ad in full.
- **Overlooking the fixed-term status:** Fixed-term, permanent, one year – such details often decide the match.
- **Leaving boxes blank:** No answer means a guaranteed zero. Match every statement.

## Tips

- First get a quick overview of all ads.
- Watch unambiguous details like fixed-term status, tasks and requirements.
- Practice quickly comparing ads and job postings.
