# telc B1 Hörverstehen Part 2 – Detail

> Listening Part 2 of the telc B1 exam: hear a longer text and solve 10 true/false tasks. Strategy, typical mistakes and a worked example.

## Key takeaways

- A longer text (e.g. interview) and 10 true/false tasks.
- The statements usually follow the order of the text – listen closely.

- Task type: True/False
- Focus: Detail comprehension

## What this part tests

Part 2 tests detail comprehension. You hear a longer, connected text – such as an interview, a report or a conversation – and decide for ten statements whether they are true or false.

The statements usually follow the order of the text, so you go along step by step. If the text is played twice, use the second time to check your answers. Importantly, the statement almost never appears word for word in the audio – it’s usually paraphrased.

False statements often contain a small but decisive difference – a different number, a different person, a negation. Rely only on the audio, not on your prior knowledge. Every correct decision scores points; wrong answers are not penalized.

**What you practice:** Close listening, Recognizing paraphrases, Comparing details

## How to approach it

1. Before listening, read all ten statements and mark the key words.
2. Listen to the text and follow the statements in order.
3. Compare each statement with the content – watch for numbers, negations and small differences.
4. Mark uncertain statements and clear them up on the second listen.
5. Decide for every statement at the end and transfer your answers.

## Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: you hear a longer text and decide whether the statement is true.

- Statement: „Der Sprachkurs findet jeden Tag statt."
  - Answer: False — In the audio the course takes place “dreimal pro Woche” (three times a week), not every day. So the statement is false.

## Practice: test yourself

- Is the statement true or false? — Aussage: „Die Person fährt jeden Tag mit dem Auto."
  - r) True
  - f) False
  - Answer: f — The person says they drive “gar nicht mehr mit dem Auto” (not by car any more), using a bike or bus instead. So the statement is false.

## Common mistakes

- **Same word, wrong statement:** A word from the audio doesn’t make the statement true. The answer depends on the meaning.
- **Missing negations:** “nicht”, “kein”, “nie” flip the statement. Listen for them on purpose.
- **Answering with prior knowledge:** Only what the audio says counts – not what you personally know about the topic.
- **Wasting the second play:** If it’s played twice, use the second listen to check – not to listen for the first time.

## Tips

- Pay special attention to numbers, times and negations – that’s where the traps hide.
- Follow the statements in order so you don’t lose your place.
- Don’t get stuck on one statement – mark it and keep listening.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many tasks does listening Part 2 have?

Ten true/false tasks on one longer audio text.

### Does the correct statement appear word for word in the audio?

Rarely. It’s usually paraphrased. Focus on the meaning, not on single matching words.

### Is the text in Part 2 played twice?

Often yes. Use the second play to check your answers and clear up open statements.

### What do I do if I miss a spot?

Mark the statement and listen for it specifically on the next play. You practice close listening with a Prepliq mock that explains the answer right away.
