Reading is one of the four modules of the Goethe-Zertifikat C2 exam (GDS). You read demanding, often literary or journalistic texts – a commentary, a factual article, a feature and job ads – and solve tasks about them. In total that’s 30 tasks in four parts. You have 80 minutes for it.
Listening is one of the four modules of the Goethe-Zertifikat C2 exam (GDS). You hear demanding texts – five excerpts from radio programs, a conversation between two people and an interview with an expert – and solve tasks about them. In total that’s 30 tasks in three parts. You have around 35 minutes for it.
Writing is the module of the Goethe-Zertifikat C2 exam (GDS) where you produce text yourself. It has two parts: in Part 1 you rewrite marked passages of a short referat, using given words that may not be changed (around 20 minutes). In Part 2 you choose one of four topics and write a longer text of around 350 words (around 60 minutes).
Speaking – the oral exam – is the fourth module of the Goethe-Zertifikat C2 exam (GDS). It has two parts and lasts around 15 minutes. Beforehand you have 15 minutes of preparation for both parts; in the exam you speak freely.

It has four modules: reading, listening, writing and speaking. Reading, listening and writing are written; speaking is oral. You can take the modules together or separately.
The modules last: reading 80 minutes, listening around 35 minutes, writing 80 minutes and speaking around 15 minutes (with preparation). With breaks it’s roughly half a day in total.
Each module is scored out of 100 points. To pass you need at least 60 of 100 points (60 %) in each module. Each module is graded separately.
GDS stands for “Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom”. The Goethe-Zertifikat C2: GDS is the highest level (C2) in the Common European Framework and certifies a near-native command of German.
Yes. In the Goethe-Zertifikat C2 you can retake a module you didn’t pass on its own, without redoing the whole exam.
Practice each module separately, do full model tests and get feedback above all for writing and speaking. At Prepliq you do realistic mock exams with instant scoring – writing and speaking are graded automatically against the official criteria.
Each Goethe-Institut or exam center sets the fee itself. Ask your exam center directly for the current price and the next dates. Anyone who fails pays again for the next attempt – a realistic Prepliq mock costs only a fraction of that and prepares you to pass first time.
