As of 2026 · Built to the official exam format
Key takeaways
- You get a topic and a keyword and use them to form a simple question.
- You also answer the questions of the other participants.
What this part tests
Part 2 tests whether you can ask for and give information in everyday life. You get a topic (for example “Einkaufen”) and a keyword (for example “Brot”) and use them to form a simple question to another participant.
In the same way you answer the questions the others ask you with their keywords. It’s about simple wh-questions and short answers: “Wie viel kostet …?”, “Wann …?”, “Wo …?”.
What matters is that you form a correct, simple question and respond to the others’ questions with a short answer. Whoever knows a few question words confidently solves this part easily.
How to approach it
- 1
Look at the topic and your keyword.
- 2
Form a simple question with a question word (“Wie viel kostet das Brot?”).
- 3
Ask the question to another participant.
- 4
Listen to the others’ questions and answer briefly and appropriately.
- 5
Speak in simple, full sentences.
Example task with answer
A short example in the same format: how to form a question and answer.
Thema: „Tagesablauf". Dein Stichwort: „Frühstück". Bilde eine Frage und beantworte die Frage deines Partners.
Example (question & answer):
Why? The example forms a simple wh-question with the keyword “Frühstück” and gives a short, fitting answer – exactly what’s expected in Part 2.
Practice: test yourself
In Teil 2 hast du das Thema „Einkaufen" und das Stichwort „Brot".
Which question fits the keyword?
Common mistakes
Use a question word (Wie viel, Wann, Wo) and ask a full question, not just the keyword.
The question must fit the topic and keyword. “Wie viel kostet das Brot?” for “Brot”, not “Wie heißt du?”.
Listen to the answer and react briefly (“Danke!”).
Simple questions are enough. Complicated sentences lead to mistakes.
Tips
- Learn the most important question words: Wie viel, Wann, Wo, Was, Wie.
- Practice forming a fitting question for a keyword.
- Answer the others’ questions briefly and politely.
