Key takeaways

  • You read a short text about a person and fill in a form.
  • Transfer five pieces of information (e.g. name, place of birth, phone) to the right place.

What this part tests

Part 1 tests whether you can transfer information from a short text into a form. You read a small text about a person and complete five missing pieces of information in the form – for example surname, first name, place of birth, place of residence or phone number.

It’s about writing the right information in the right place. Watch especially for the difference between origin (where from?) and place of residence (where now?) and for numbers like postcode and phone number.

You don’t have to write full sentences – just the individual details. Every correct detail scores points; wrong answers are not penalized, so fill in every field.

What you practice:Filling in a formAssigning detailsWriting numbers correctly

How to approach it

  1. 1

Read the whole text once and underline the details (name, place, numbers).

  2. 2

Look at the form and consider which detail goes in which field.

  3. 3

Transfer the information to the right place – watch origin and place of residence.

  4. 4

    Copy numbers (postcode, phone) exactly.

  5. 5

Check at the end that all five fields are filled in.

Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: read the text and fill in the field correctly.

Du liest (sinngemäß)

„Frau Nowak ist 34 Jahre alt. Sie kommt aus Polen und wohnt in der Gartenstraße 12 in Hamburg. Sie arbeitet als Köchin."

What do you write in the field “occupation”? (a) Köchin · (b) Hamburg · (c) 34

Answer: a

Why? Frau Nowak “arbeitet als Köchin” (works as a cook) – that’s her occupation (a). “Hamburg” is the place of residence, “34” is her age.

Practice: test yourself

Du liest (sinngemäß): „Das ist Herr Ahmadi. Er kommt aus Isfahan im Iran und wohnt jetzt in Berlin. Seine Telefonnummer ist 030 123456."

What do you write in the field “place of birth / origin”?

Common mistakes

1
Confusing origin and residence

“kommt aus” is the origin, “wohnt in” the place of residence. Don’t write them in the wrong field.

2
Copying numbers wrong

Postcode and phone number must be exactly right. Copy them carefully.

3
Leaving a field empty

Every empty field is a lost point. Fill in all five fields.

4
Writing full sentences

In the form the individual details are enough – no full sentences needed.

Tips

  • Underline the details in the text before you fill in the form.
  • Watch the difference “kommt aus” (origin) and “wohnt in” (residence).
  • Write numbers especially carefully.
