As of 2026 · Built to the official exam format
Key takeaways
- You read a short text about a person and fill in a form.
- Transfer five pieces of information (e.g. name, place of birth, occupation) to the right place.
What this part tests
Part 1 tests whether you can transfer information from a short text into a form. You read a small text about a person and complete five missing pieces of information in the form – for example name, place of birth, place of residence, occupation or phone number.
It’s about writing the right information in the right place. Watch especially for the difference between origin (where from?) and place of residence (where now?) and for numbers like postcode and phone number.
You don’t have to write full sentences – just the individual details. Every correct detail scores points; wrong answers are not penalized, so fill in every field.
How to approach it
- 1
Read the whole text once and underline the details (name, place, occupation, numbers).
- 2
Look at the form and consider which detail goes in which field.
- 3
Transfer the information to the right place – watch origin and place of residence.
- 4
Copy numbers (postcode, phone) exactly.
- 5
Check at the end that all five fields are filled in.
Example task with answer
A short example in the same format: read the text and fill in the field correctly.
„Herr Sahin ist 28 Jahre alt. Er kommt aus der Türkei und wohnt in der Bahnhofstraße 7 in Leipzig. Er arbeitet als Mechaniker."
What do you write in the field “place of residence”? (a) Leipzig · (b) Türkei · (c) Mechaniker
Why? Herr Sahin “wohnt … in Leipzig” – that’s his place of residence (a). “Türkei” is the origin, “Mechaniker” the occupation.
Practice: test yourself
Du liest (sinngemäß): „Das ist Frau Costa. Sie kommt aus Portugal und wohnt jetzt in Köln. Sie arbeitet als Lehrerin an einer Schule."
What do you write in the field “occupation”?
Common mistakes
“kommt aus” is the origin, “wohnt in” the place of residence. Don’t write them in the wrong field.
Postcode and phone number must be exactly right. Copy them carefully.
Every empty field is a lost point. Fill in all five fields.
In the form the individual details are enough – no full sentences needed.
Tips
- Underline the details in the text before you fill in the form.
- Watch the difference “kommt aus” (origin) and “wohnt in” (residence).
- Write numbers especially carefully.
