Key takeaways

  • You hear a radio interview and answer 6 multiple-choice tasks (a/b/c).
  • You hear it twice. Watch the statements of the interviewed person.

What this part tests

Part 2 tests whether you can follow a longer interview – usually a host asks an expert about a topic. You answer six tasks with three options each (a, b or c).

The tasks follow the order of the interview. At B2 the correct answer is paraphrased, and you must grasp the interviewed person’s statements, reasons and qualifications precisely. You hear the interview twice.

Wrong options often pick up a word but distort the meaning, or mix up statements of host and guest. Watch who says what. Every correct answer scores points; wrong answers are not penalized.

How to approach it

  1. 1

Before listening, read all six tasks and mark key words.

  2. 2

Listen to the interview and follow the tasks in order.

  3. 3

Watch the statements of the interviewed person, not just the host.

  4. 4

Choose the option that reflects the statement precisely – including qualifications.

  5. 5

Check your answers on the second listening.

Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: you hear an extract and choose the right option.

What does Herr Klein say about the printed book?

  • aEs wird bald völlig verschwinden.
  • Es wird trotz E-Books bestehen bleiben.
  • cEs ist schon heute ohne Bedeutung.

Why? Herr Klein says e-books are becoming more important, “aber das gedruckte Buch wird nicht verschwinden”. That’s b. (a) and (c) contradict his statement.

Practice: test yourself

How does Frau Berg assess a language stay abroad?

Common mistakes

1
Confusing host and guest

The question usually targets the guest. Watch who says what.

2
Missing the qualification

“allerdings”, “zwar … aber” change the statement. Grasp it in full.

3
Same word, wrong statement

A word from the interview doesn’t make the option right. Watch for the meaning.

4
Leaving boxes blank

No answer means a guaranteed zero. Guess an option if you have to.

Tips

  • Watch especially the statements of the interviewed person.
  • Listen for qualifications like “allerdings”, “zwar … aber”.
  • Use the second listening to check.
