Reading is one of the four modules of the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 exam. You read demanding texts – forum posts, a magazine article, a newspaper article, opinion statements and a formal text (e.g. a set of regulations) – and solve tasks about them. In total that’s 30 tasks in five parts. You have 65 minutes for it.
Listening is one of the four modules of the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 exam. You hear demanding texts – short everyday situations, a radio interview, a discussion with several people and a lecture – and solve tasks about them. In total that’s 30 tasks in four parts. You have around 40 minutes for it.
Writing is the module of the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 exam where you produce text yourself. It has two parts: in Part 1 you write an argumentative contribution to an online forum (around 150–180 words), in Part 2 a formal message or notice (around 100 words). You have 75 minutes for it.
Speaking – the oral exam – is the fourth module of the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 exam. You speak in two parts, usually in a pair with another candidate. Beforehand you have preparation time. The exam itself lasts around 15 minutes.

It has four modules: reading, listening, writing and speaking. Reading, listening and writing are written; speaking is oral and usually takes place in pairs with a partner. You can take the modules together or separately.
The modules last: reading 65 minutes, listening around 40 minutes, writing 75 minutes and speaking around 15 minutes (plus preparation time). With breaks it’s roughly half a day in total.
Each module is scored out of 100 points. To pass you need at least 60 of 100 points (60 %) in each module. Each module is graded separately.

Both certify the B2 level but have a slightly different format. The Goethe-Zertifikat B2 is modular, so you can take the four modules separately. Check which exam your exam center offers.
Practice each module separately, do full model tests and get feedback above all for writing and speaking. At Prepliq you do realistic mock exams with instant scoring – writing and speaking are graded automatically against the official criteria.
Each Goethe-Institut or exam center sets the fee itself. Ask your exam center directly for the current price and the next dates. Anyone who fails pays again for the next attempt – a realistic Prepliq mock costs only a fraction of that and prepares you to pass first time.
