Key takeaways

  • 5 pieces of radio information – decide for each statement: true or false?
  • Listen for the important information such as time, place or weather.

What this part tests

Part 2 tests whether you understand information and announcements from the radio – for example weather, traffic, events or short news. For each piece of information you decide whether a statement is true or false.

What matters is the concrete information: what’s the weather like? when is the event? what does something cost? Before listening, read the statements and consider what to listen for.

A false statement often differs in just one detail or exaggerates (“all day”, “always”). Listen carefully for the information. Every correct decision scores points; wrong answers are not penalized.

How to approach it

  1. 1

Before listening, read the statement and mark the important information (time, place, weather).

  2. 2

Listen to the information and focus on it.

  3. 3

Compare the statement with what you heard: is it really correct?

  4. 4

Watch for exaggerations like “all day” or “always”.

  5. 5

Decide and transfer your answer to the answer sheet.

Example task with answer

A short example in the same format: you hear a radio report and decide whether the statement is true.

Du hörst (sinngemäß)

„Ein Hinweis für alle Autofahrer: Auf der A5 gibt es wegen eines Unfalls einen Stau von etwa fünf Kilometern. Bitte fahren Sie langsam."

Statement: “There is a traffic jam on the A5.”

Answer: True (Richtig)

Why? In the report there is “auf der A5 … einen Stau von etwa fünf Kilometern” (a tailback of about five kilometres on the A5). The statement restates that correctly – true.

Practice: test yourself

Du hörst (sinngemäß) eine Radiomeldung: „Und nun das Wetter: Heute bleibt es sonnig und warm. Am Abend kann es im Norden etwas regnen."

Is the statement true or false? Statement: “Today it rains all day.”

Common mistakes

1
Overlooking an exaggeration

Words like “immer”, “den ganzen Tag”, “alle” often make a statement false. Check whether the text really says that.

2
Missing the detail

Even a different time or place makes the statement false. Listen carefully.

3
Not reading first

Without knowing the statements, you don’t know what to listen for. Use the reading time.

4
Leaving boxes blank

No answer means a guaranteed zero. Decide even if you have to guess.

Tips

  • Watch for exaggerations – they often make a statement false.
  • Mark the key information in each statement before listening.
  • Use the second listen to check.
